Rocky Mountain Soap is just the coolest company. Originating in Canmore, RMS started with the simple belief that Mother Nature’s ingredients are safer and better than those concocted in a lab. They are committed to creating all-natural products that are toxin-free and smell good enough to eat (but don’t! It’s safe, but it doesn’t taste good). They’ve even pioneered the Toxin-FREE Movement because “We feel that when an ingredient has been identified as potentially harmful it is safest to avoid it. Period.” We can get behind that!
Pharmasave on Centre and The Store Upstairs are proud retailers of Rocky Mountain Soap Company products, and we recently got the chance to go behind the scenes to see just how these amazing products are made! The experience was so fantastic that we just had to share it with you—so have a look, then come on in to get your own RMS products.
Rocky Mountain Soap Company soaps are all handmade with natural ingredients like coconut or olive oil, mashed fruits and veggies, herbs, and essential oils. It takes an entire day to make a single batch of soap, and it has to cure for eight weeks before it’s ready to be cut and sold. Our staff got to visit the curing (drying) area, and Kelly from RMS told us all about how their soaps are made.
Here we are looking at and smelling all the raw ingredients that go into RMS body butter. Made from things like beeswax and cocoa butter, these ingredients truly smelled delicious! Plus, body butter is a super effective way to moisturize very dry skin.
Bath Bomb Mixing
That grey mixer in the middle left of the background? That’s used to make the bath bombs. Just like all of their products, all bath bombs are made by hand—and they can churn out about 1800 of them per day!
Say hello to RMS’ two main chemists, pictured here in their lab. After all, even great natural products need great science! We got to learn all about the things they’re working on and how they develop products using safe and natural ingredients. We even got to test out a brand new lotion!
Once we got the lowdown on how RMS products are made, we got to try our hand at creating our own! We whipped up our own bath salts using essential oils—if we didn’t love working for The Store Upstairs so much, we might just ask them for a job!
Rocky Mountain Soap Company is committed to safe, natural products from safe, natural sources. They’re Alberta-born and passionate about supporting local. Come check out the RMS products we carry, you won’t be disappointed! And ask us about our trip while you’re here!
